Congratulations!!
To John Brethour and the staff at the Kansas State University Ag Research
Center – Hays. The grand prize winner of the largest purse ever put up for a beef value contest, the "Best of Breed" grand prize of $100,000.
The top three winners in the contest came from Kansas & Nebraska, and were all sorted at least once by ultrasound technology developed by John Brethour,
patented by KSU and licensed to the Cattle Performance Enhancement Co. (CPEC) in Oakley, Kansas.
Approximately 280 steers were evaluated by John Brethour in
the selection of the grand prize winning entry. Forty-nine percent of the winning entry came from the The KSU Ag Research Center – Hays cow herd
that were bred to four different Green Garden bulls. The Ag Center cow herd is a typical mixed breed cow herd that averages about 50% Angus,
with the rest being predominately Simmental with a small percentage of Brahman. John then selected steers to complete his winning entry
from commercial cattle ranchers that have been selecting for carcasss merit in their herds.
Great Results:
Proven Carcass Genetics add Value to your calf crop!
The winning entry graded 100% Choice or better with 91% qualifying for Certified Angus Beef* including 32% Prime and 6% qualiflying for Farmland Angus Beef.
There were NO discounts! This entry of steers from registered Angus bulls had an average worth of $132.05/cwt. They were 31% YG2’s and there were no YG4 carcasses. Seventy-five percent of this 78 head entry was comprised of steers produced from the research center cow herd, the Roy Soukup Ranch and the Bettenbrock Ranch, using 8 different sires bred at Green Garden Angus.
